چکیده

جغرافیای تاریخی علمی است، که به شناخت شهرها و قصبات یک مملکت، یا یک منطقه و استان می‌پردازد، که روز و روزگاری در تحت تابعیت، یا حاکمیت اداری یک استان یا مملکتی بوده و بعد طی گذشت روزگار و مرور زمان از مرکز قبلی خویش جدا و خود دارای حاکمیت یا مرکزیت جدید گردیده‌اند. بدین ترتیب کتاب‌هایی نیز با عناوین جغرافیای تاریخی مثلاً: ایران یا خراسان و اصفهان و ... به رشته تحریر درآمده‌اند.
در مبحث جغرافیای تاریخی آذربایجان نیز علاوه بر سرزمین‌های تحت عنوان اصلی «استان‌های آذربایجان شرقی و غربی و جمهوری آذربایجان» بحث از استان‌ها و شهرهایی می‌شود، که امروزه در تحت تابعیت اداری آذربایجان نیستند، ولی قبلاً از مضافات (اضافه شده‌های) آذربایجان محسوب می‌شدند. در این مقاله کوشش گردیده به­شیوه­ای مختصر و مفید به شهرهایی که روزگاری در تحت تابعیت آذربایجان بوده­اند؛ پرداخته شود، تا معلوم گردد آذربایجان نیز مثل خراسان به سرزمین‌های وسیعی اطلاق می‌شد، که در پروسه تاریخی خود به کمتر از نصف حدود قبلی و واقعی خود تقلیل یافته­است.

چکیده [English]

 Historical geography is a science that deals with the cities and towns of a country or a region as well as a province which were once under the jurisdiction or administrative authority of a province and country or separated from their former center over time and have become a new center. In this way, books with titles of historical geography, such as Iran, Khorasan, Isfahan, etc., have been written.
In the topic of historical geography of Azerbaijan, in addition to the lands under the title of “East and West Azerbaijan Provinces and the Republic of Azerbaijan”, provinces and cities that are not under the administrative jurisdiction of Azerbaijan today but were previously considered as annexes (additions) of Azerbaijan, are discussed. In this article, an effort has been made to briefly and usefully address the cities that were once under the citizenship of Azerbaijan, in order to find out that Azerbaijan, like Khorasan, was referred to vast lands, which in its historical process has been reduced to less than half of its former and real extent.
