This text explores the unknown personal life of Uzeyir Hajibeyli, the renowned Azerbaijani composer, through his intimate love letters to his wife Maleyka Khanum. Written mainly in Russian, these letters reveal a deep emotional bond, his struggle to study music in Moscow, and severe financial and family hardships. Malekeh was not only a devoted lover but also a capable manager of Hajibeyli’s large family. Throughout the correspondence, Uzeyir constantly worries about her health, encourages her to learn Azerbaijani Turkish, and shares his frustrations with the “Najat” society and his efforts to enter the Moscow Conservatory. Malekeh, in turn, patiently supports him during separations and political turmoil, including the bloody events of 1918. These documents portray a romantic, hardworking, and caring man, far from his public legend, whose ultimate goals were love, musical perfection, and family welfare.
